There was a time when I had no ideas left, couldn’t find any jobs, and fell into a deep hole due to layoffs and dismissals. The job search was tough, and many colleagues turned their backs on the film industry. I didn’t want to give up and decided to work freelance to regain my passion and enjoyment for the work.

But reality was different: unemployment, self-doubt, and hardly any time for creativity during the job search made it hard to climb out of this hole. Yet, I managed to breathe creative air again, become mindful, and find my own style.

Yes, the worries will always be there, but I’ve learned to handle them. My enthusiasm for VFX, once my passion, will not be my downfall – it makes the world more colorful, not grayer.

How I managed to climb out of the hole:

  • Mindfulness: Taking time to reflect and organize my thoughts.
  • Nurturing Creativity: Starting small projects
that bring me joy and awaken my creative energy.
  • Networking: Connecting and exchanging ideas with other creatives.
  • Freelance Work: Enjoying the freedom and flexibility
that inspires and opens up new opportunities.

For anyone in a similar situation: Don’t give up.

Women in Self-Employment: Here in Germany, there are significantly fewer women than men who go into self-employment, especially in the film industry. I have come across some supportive communities like Uplift.

Don’t let the challenges get you down. Your passion can carry you through the hardest times and lead you to new heights. ✨
